It does not sound like he needs a vet. His only injuries at this point are psychological and that does not require a vet nor the bill that comes along with the vet. It sounds like he needs you, and lots of you, if you want him to come out of his depression, and that is exactly what this is. He misses his human and his human is your mother.Giving him to you, you will now have to give him as much loving attention as possible. Spend lots of time talking to him and reassuring him that everything will be okay. If possible have your mother visit as much as she can. He will respond to this as well as to the extra attention you pay him.Cat have feelings and having him groomed right after taking him away from his home only added salt to the original wound. Do not traumatize him with any more trips to the vet. Take the time to make him yours first. Your new job is to make him want you to be his new human. With a cat, that is not an easy job, but it can be done.Time, love, patience, gentle talk and petting is all you need to bring him out of this depression.

we hand reared some red rumps on emp, as long as you remember to soak it untill the chick is about 3 weeks then you can start to dry the mix a bit and add a bit of millet seed then slowly change over to seed when the feathers srart to come through, it was a few years ago now but as long as your chick is eating every few hours and their is some fresh water available it should be OK, we put the food in between our thumb and finger and fed them like the mother would i really can’t remember what the poo looked like but out of 3 chicks we got two so we must have been doing something right, if you have a bulb then put it up for heat keep the chick dry and clean and feed it every 2-3 hours you can not over feed it as it will stop when it is full, if it is active and cheeping then all would appear to be OK best of luck with your chick we still have our hand reared ones and they are so tame, it was a wonderful experience and i don’t think i will ever get two birds as nice as my boys are.
